Exciting things happening...

Work placements

As soon as i've recovered from this dissertation I'm gonna be updating my c.v and putting together a selection to send out to try and get work placements.
Still hoping for one at Marimekko, persistence wins in the end, even if I'm 90 by the time i get to finland.
Anyone interested in a taking a printed textiles student for a work placement starting summer 2012 let me know...

Interior Visualisations.

Here are some of the interior 3D drapings I did at the end of the last project. It's always nice to see your work in context, and in hindsight this would be a productive thing to do during the project as it really shows what scales and repeats work in an interior setting, not just as a flat design. something to think about for the up coming Final major project...

Surtex competition.

Thought I would take a little break from dissertation and enter the Surtex student design competition.
the brief this year is outdoor celebration and I chose a summer time Picnic/BBq as my theme.

Screen Printing

Screen Printing is one of my favourite processes. I love to transfer my initial designs and drawings onto screens then use these in different combinations, layers and orders to create different compositions. I find this a great way to create a wide range of designs and it helps my creative process.
Here are some of my favourite screen prints, some used as final designs some used for development.

More images of textures, technical processes and interior visualisations coming...

Lino Print designs.

After the drawing process i always like to get down into the print rooms and start transferring my designs onto paper and fabric using a range of print processes.

One of my favourites is Lino printing, and for this project I produced over 20 Lino blocks, both hand-carved, and i also experimented with cutting the Lino blocks using the laser cutter.
Although this techniques is more exact there is not such a variation in the quality and thickness of line which is something i prefer about hand cutting the Lino.
I produced some nice clean prints, i also was able to experiment with overlaying and combining different Lino blocks.
The end results were some interesting paper prints which i could then manipulate using the computer into some digital design pieces.

Drawing, Drawing, Drawing...

So after a slow start to the project i have finally done a few good drawings. they're taking ages because they're all so pattern dense but hopefully i will eventually get some good designs from them.
the hard bit will be transferring them all to CAD so i can play around and get some design development going.

Just black and white pen drawings but i generally prefer to draw textures and patterns in black and white and then add colour using CAD or printing techniques later on.

Now i can start doing some CAD work, Lino prints and general development work. more coming soon...
